We are Chequeado, a non-profit, non-partisan organization. We help people make informed decisions by combining fact-checking, education, and civic technology to elevate the quality of public debate and contribute to strong democracies. Through our Media, Innovation, Education and Impact and New Initiatives programs, we promote information integrity and critical thinking for active citizenship.
We work to counter disinformation, increase transparency of public data, and develop innovative tools that improve access to reliable information. Our impact is amplified through regional partnerships that foster collaborative efforts from the Global South.
Founded in October 2010, we are the first organization of our kind in Latin America and one of the first ten fact-checkers in the world.
Through our Media, Education, Innovation and Impact, and New Initiatives programs, we work to:
- Help people make informed decisions by strengthening their critical thinking skills and access to reliable information.
- Promote information integrity and critical thinking as key pillars of active citizenship.
- Increase transparency of public data and develop innovative tools that support its understanding and use.
- Build collaborative partnerships with media outlets, organizations and communities to counter disinformation from a regional perspective.
We are driven by the belief that a better-informed society makes better decisions.
We work to ensure that public debate is grounded more in data and facts, more in trusted sources and less in opinions, prejudices, and bias.
Because we believe that access to verified, understandable information is key to strengthening democracy and fostering active citizenship.
Media
We produce articles, content, and investigations based on fact cheking to provide reliable data and information that improve public debate and support informed decision-making.
We fact-check public discourse and monitor the spread of disinformation, always in conversation with our community. Today, nearly half of the fact-checks we publish are based on content submitted by people through our social media channels, website, and WhatsApp line.
We also promote collaborative journalism through partnerships with local and regional media outlets, allowing us to expand our impact and build a shared agenda to address the challenges of disinformation.
See moreEducation
We promote critical thinking and media and information literacy through educational projects aimed at strengthening active, reflective citizenship equipped to confront disinformation.
We design innovative content and resources for journalists, educators and students, and carry out research and training initiatives at both small and large scales.
We do this in partnership with organizations, educational communities and key regional actors, driven by the conviction that collaborative work is essential to transform how information is produced, shared, and consumed.

Innovation
We explore and develop new formats, tools and technologies to improve access to reliable information and support informed decision-making in increasingly complex digital environments.
We create tech solutions that enhance and accelerate fact-checking -such as Chequeabot, our AI-powered tool- and experiment with formats and designs that help bring verified information closer to diverse audiences.
Innovation runs through all our programs and is strengthened through close collaboration with the Media, Education and Impact and New Initiatives teams.
See moreImpact and New Initiatives
We analyze and measure the impact of our work to improve our strategies against disinformation. We combine traditional metrics with in-depth studies -often carried out in collaboration with academics and experts from diverse fields- to better understand how information circulates and how we influence public debate.
We also launch new initiatives that allow us to experiment, scale up what we learn, and respond to emerging challenges.
We coordinate regional alliances such as LatamChequea, the Latin American fact-checking network, which strengthens collaborative work from the Global South.
